I didn't even know what a luthier was until I met Keith Lauchle. I can't believe how many steps it takes to get a pile of boards into a guitar that sounds fantastic. Some guitars have six, seven, sometimes ten different kinds of wood in them from all over the world. Guitars are expensive to make and sometimes Keith has to make 6 or 7 duds in a row before he gets a 'perfect' one. I have so much admiration and respect for Keith, as he is dedicated to perfecting his art and learning from his mistakes. There are so many variables that have to come into place to create these one of a kind works of art. Each piece takes hours upon hours to make. From cutting all the wood, to staining, to buffing, to wiring, to getting the details just right: there is a bit of science to getting each model to function as an instrument.
